We have been waiting for years to get a permit from the Building Department of the Town of North Hempstead to build a new sanctuary in our existing property at 859 Prospect Avenue; Westbury, NY to worship God, our creator. Our actual place of worship is old and dilapidated. In addition, the church has become too small, due to membership growth. Eben-Ezer Haitian Baptist Church of Westbury is a home, and sanctuary for many Haitians displaced by the January 12, 2010 earthquake and the subsequent hurricanes that came to hit Haiti. The church has also a food pantry that serves the needy people of the New Cassel community. With more facilities in the new church, doors will be open for a soup kitchen for the needy.
On July 15, 2015, the church got the approval to build the new sanctuary seen in the pictures below. The Town of North Hempstead was ready to issue the permits for the demolition of the old building and the new building project. The last deadline to obtain the demolition/building permits is April 25, 2022. The church, according to T.N.H. is limited to a maximum of three one-year extensions. This is the third and final request that can be granted. What we need now is the funding. The cost of the building project is about 2.5 million dollars, without mentioning furniture and equipment. We have only $650,000 (dollars) in the construction fund.
